Pumpkin spice season is in full swing, and we're treating ourselves to fall favorites with a touch of our secret ingredient—hemp oil tincture! Not only does the dropper make it easy and mess-free while cooking with tinctures, but it allows you to be precise with serving size. Whether you're taking a crisp morning stroll, cozying up for an evening by the fire, or indulging in a slice of sweet relief before bed—incorporating CBD, CBG, and CBN into this cinnamon-spiced pumpkin bread will have you feeling as light as an autumn leaf.
You can always add your preferred tincture to this recipe, but we wanted a comforting treat that’s ideal for winding down. The results were delicious—but don't just take our word for it.
Cooking With CBD Tincture
While you can cook and bake with hemp oil and tinctures, high temperatures alter the chemistry of the cannabinoids. If you heat up the oil too high above 200°F it could degrade, which causes terpenes to take on a bitter flavor and lowers overall effectiveness. So how is it we’re baking our bread at 375° F? Thankfully the amount of moisture in this particular recipe helps keep internal temps below 200°F—but it’s worth noting that the outer edges of the bread will have CBD that breaks down with the heat. If you want to play it really safe and preserve every drop of tincture, try the icing recipe below! The taste may be a bit stronger, but your cannabinoids won’t lose any efficacy.
That being said, our team tried this loaf with tincture baked in and it was amazing—with a nice, calming effect and no bitter taste. We’d recommend adjusting the serving size of the tincture to whatever you’re most comfortable with. This low-dose recipe is enough to make 8 slices. Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 can of pumpkin purée (14oz)
- ½ cup white granulated sugar
- ¾ cup dark brown sugar
- 3 eggs
- ½ cup of refined coconut oil (canola oil or olive oil also works)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Optional Icing
Directions
-
Begin by preheating your oven to 375º Fahrenheit. Prepare your loaf pan with baking spray or a parchment paper lining and set it aside.
-
In a large mixing bowl, mix together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and pumpkin pie spice. (If you don't have a sifter, you can use a whisk to gently break up any lumps of flour while ensuring the dry ingredients are well mixed.)
-
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk the pumpkin purée, white granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, oil, and vanilla extract. If you plan to include it in the bread, drop in 2mL of Lazarus Naturals Full Spectrum Sleep Tincture. Stir again, just to make sure that all of the ingredients are mixed optimally.
-
Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and gently fold them together until combined. You should not be able to see any visible streaks of dry flour—but it's fine if the batter is a little bit lumpy.
-
Transfer the batter to your prepared loaf pan, and smooth out the top so the batter is even. If you're planning to add pepitas atop your loaf, sprinkle them evenly over the batter and then place the pan in the oven.
-
Bake for at least one hour—though some ovens may take closer to 75 minutes. (If you're using muffin tins, the total bake time will be closer to 25-30 minutes.) The loaf is ready once it’s slightly cracked and golden brown on top and feels set when you gently tap it with a fingertip. (It should not wobble.) If you want to make sure the loaf is completely finished baking, you can use a cake tester or wooden skewer. It should come out clean when it’s ready to serve.
-
Remove the loaf from the oven and let it cool in the pan for ten minutes.
-
To make the icing (if you're opting to incorporate the tincture this way, rather than within the loaf itself) simply whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of cream or milk, and 2 mL of whichever Lazarus Naturals oil tincture you prefer. After thoroughly mixing all the ingredients, pour over your bread and enjoy!
