What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in certain plants (cannabis, hemp, echinacea). CBD goes to work in the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a group of cannabinoid receptors which are spread throughout the human body.
When CBD connects to a receptor, it does not produce the same kind of intoxicating effect that its well known cousin, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) does. CBD is non-psychoactive, and consuming moderate amounts will not cause inebriation. For more information, please visit our About CBD page.
Are CBD and THC the same thing?
No. There are over 100 known cannabinoids, each with their own effect on the body. Though THC and CBD have similar chemical composition, their atoms are arranged differently. Because of the way THC is arranged molecularly, it is the perfect compound for interaction with Cannaboid 1 (CB1) receptors. This connection is the one that provides an intoxicating effect to the brain. CBD, however, is not a good connector to CB1. Instead, CBD connects with CB2 receptor. This produces a completely different effect on the body.
What is CBD used for?
CBD has been reported to promote healthy sleep, support normal cartilage and joint function, may relieve occasional nausea, promote relaxation and ease anxiety.* We aim to provide you with as much information on CBD as possible. However, in accordance with US regulations we cannot make any health claims regarding our products. For further information, we recommend consulting with your doctor, government resources, and scientific publications.
Is CBD legal?
Currently, hemp-derived CBD products are legal in all 50 states, and over 40 countries. You should always check with your local government officer, police department, or customs office for the most up to date information regarding the legality of CBD in your area. This article should not be considered legal advice, so we strongly recommend that you check with your own local administration to ensure that you are happy with the level of legality of consuming these products before you buy them.

Do Lazarus CBD products contain any THC?
There are trace amounts of THC present in most hemp-derived CBD products. However, the trace amounts of CBD in our product are below the federally mandated 0.03% limit.
Are there any heavy metals or pesticides in Lazarus products?
No! We third party test all of our plant matter and products for heavy metals and pesticides. Our test results can be found on individual product pages.
Do you test the quality of the hemp you use?
Yes! When we receive a bulk shipment of hemp to our laboratory, we test for heavy metals and pesticides. We use ethanol to separate the CBD from the plant material. We then test the raw oil extracted for potency and for any solvents left in the oil. Our CBD generally passes through several filtration processes, distillations, and are finally treated with advanced isolates to ensure a healthy end-product. We send all batches made in-house to a 3rd party laboratory for potency and quality analysis.
What do you test for?
Upon receiving a bulk shipment of hemp we test for heavy metals and potency.
In the next step we use ethanol to separate CBD from the plant material. Afterwards, the raw oil is tested for potency and for solvents—it’s important to note that the solvent we use (cane ethanol) is the same as what you find in alcoholic drinks and is safe for human consumption. You can find potency results on each product’s page.
If the raw CBD oil is refined into distilled CBD we test again for potency. Testing for solvents is not performed twice due to the distillation process removing any remaining alcohol.
If it is refined into CBD isolate we test again for solvents and potency.
Are Lazarus products vegan?
Yes! We do not use animal products in the extraction process, in the product, or any of our packaging. All of our products are also gluten-free, and contain no preservatives.
